Following a report from the Washington correlator that the Auscope data was suffering from a large number of dropped frames due to Sync errors (David Hall, 26/1/12 - R4515), we investigated the recorded mark5b data. The results are as follows.

Mark5b data format

The recorded data consists of “frames”, each with a length of 10016 bytes. Each frame consists of a 16-byte header, followed by 10000 bytes of data. The header starts with a sync word (represented as abaddeed in hexadecimal), followed by a frame counter (represented as bead0000, etc)
