LBA Observations with AuScope Antennas

With Katherine & Yarragadee joining the LBA, experiments using them in a non-geodetic mode are becoming more frequent. This is a guide to setting up the AuScope dishes for LBA observations. Katherine is being used as an example here. These notes assume some familiarity with the system from IVS observing. If you’re completely new to this, please have a read through the AuScope Wiki in parallel for definitions, etc. Some useful starting points

The laborious work is drudging the schedules & preparing the DBBC configurations. These can be done ahead of time (and really do need to be as they’re quite time consuming).

Starting from scratch (using VNC sessions timeke:0 dbbcke:0 pcfske:1)

  • Check Displays on timeke (antenna, maser, anemometer, Clock)
  • Check DBBC server is running in dbbcke
  • On pcfske:
    • ssh to mk5ke and check mk5 software is running
    • Start FS
    • run fmset, check clocks are OK (looking for NO sycerr_gt_3 for Mark5B, all 3 times synchronised). If a problem, use option 's'. ESC when finished
      • in the FS load the first non-fringe-finding experiment :
        • proc=v252aike
        • setup01
      • Now do a test recording check spectra and bit stats
        • disk_record=on
        • disk_record=off
        • scan_check
        • postob
      • Start the schedule
        • schedule=vc189ke
