Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

  4. 01:17 UT wind stow released; not on source for scans 198-0000 through 198-0101 (w)

  • 0705UT ERROR un 111 Connection refused; ERROR s5 -23 rfpcn: error opening, rfpic probably not running, see above for error. Try “antenna=open”;“antenna=operate” didn't help. Fixed with restarting Rxmon. Effected scans: 197-0705a-197-0748 (Simin)

  • 13:24UT - Autocorrelation spectra does not look like an r4 spectra. Have tried resetting the dbbc. Missed scans 193-1324a through 193-1334. The spectrum still looks odd, but the mode etc are correct (Ross).

  • 1800UT Experiment started OK (Katie)
  • 1815UT Was getting the 'previous source not reached before new source commanded' error after every scan. Wind was low so no recent wind stows. Noticed that another fs output after every scan was 'Antenna drives not on, switching them on'. Checked the live page and drives were off.Trying using the onsource command but that did not work. Solution was to go to vdesk (type in newsmerd) then 'abort' and then 'drvon'. This clears any previous commands that the antenna gets stuck on. (Katie)
  • First scan 191-1855 (Katie).
  • 0220 - 0558 Ho26 windstowed, no useful data in this time range. (JMc)
  • 11:40UT Start windstow (Lucas).
    • 12:45UT update: Still windstowed. Wind is steady at 35km/hr with gusts up to 50 over last hour. High enough to keep in mostly constant windstow with the occasional half slew (Lucas).

Had to be drudged manually from hard to find .vex file, not found on all IVS servers and Warren didn't receive email.

    • frequent slewing errors from “onsource” in preob, but tracking soon thereafter. not enough time scheduled between scans-or is antenna slow? (Warren)
    • 07:40 UT error tc -301 continuous cal not enabled for dbbc ddc solved by changing cont_cal=on in the prc file (Lim)

  • 08:00UT still wind stowed (Lim)
  • 09:09UT schedule resumed around scan 0844-652, wind about 40km/h(Lim)
  • 11:00UT wind speed ~30km/h, still wind stowed. Halt schedule again (Lim)
  • 1150UT wind speed ok, resume schedule (Lim)
  • 1225UT Wind stowed again, halt schedule (Lim)
  • 1347UT Notice that it was still on halt, so continued the schedule (wind was low). Missed scans, no0205 - no0220. (Katie)
  • 1354UT Go the warning: “Cannot change schedules while recording, use_disk_record=off to stop.” (Katie)
