Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

Module: HOB+0132, start pos ? GB

  • 00:00 UT - Experiment started OK
  • 12:18 UT - Lost connection to drive pc, restarted both drive pc and field system pc, but no luck. Called Jamie, he is trying to fix it. Probably related to the network still not being quite right. Brett restarted some switches out at Mt Pleasant, but issues still remain. (Patrick)
  • 13:44 UT - Restarted schedule. Problem was a struggling DNS server that was responding to queries slowly. Jamie pointed Newsmerd and Hobart to use a different DNS server which fixed the issues. Resumed with scan 344-1344. Missed scans were 344-1218a - 344-1341 (Patrick)
  • 14:51 UT - Windstow until 15:19. Had to send source=stow command again, as telescope was not stowing. (Patrick)
  • 15:57 UT - Windstow until 16:59. (Patrick)
  • 17:48 UT - Windstow until 17:59. (Patrick)
  • 23:06 UT - Schedule halted for cryo maintenance. (JMc)
  • 23:36 UT - Schedule resumes. All scans between 344-2305b and 344-2336 invalid (JMc).

  • 00:01 UT - First scan (344-0001) recorded onto previous experiment's module (GSFC+012). Scans from 344-0003 onward recorded onto correct module. This means that diskpos.py will lie about data difference (Patrick)
  • 13:00 UT - UTAS VPN to Ke back online, all seems to be good. (Patrick)

  • Antenna got half stuck in windstow between 2017.343.20:53:49.22–2017.343.22:55:55.59. Restarting schedule and windstow script fixed issue. No alarm.
  • New windstow script is messing up comments.py. To auto report windstows and missed scans for c1712ho, download the log to /vlbobs/ivs/logs/. This can be done using scp oper@hobart:/usr2/log/c1712ho.log /vlbobs/ivs/logs/ ,manually remove the line 2017.343.00:07:44.23;“Schedule resumed after end of wind stow.. Run python ask/comments/comments_hofix.py to generate the email. Run flogit as per normal but make sure you download a fresh copy of the log. You might have to delete another line if the telescope goes into stow before the exp end but doesnt recover before the exp finishes. Temp workaround until the old anemometer is fixed. (Arwin)
