Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

====== Experiment Name ======

**Hobart 12m**

Disk VSN: abc-123 | Data volume at beginning: 2.34 GB

**Yarragadee 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

Setup issues

  • 06:15 UT Yg field system wasn't starting properly, rebooted the pcfyg computer which seems to have resolved the problem.

Observing run

  • Before 07:00 UT: See below the baseline screen-shot of the spectrum analyzer.

  • 07:00 UT - 07:30 UT : X= cross, S=direct (20v): The signal was observed around 0659 UT, antenna is tracking the space-craft well.

  • 07:30 UT - 08:00 UT : X=cross, S=cross (variable volt. 14v -checked with Yg staff): The signal strength decreased slightly, see image below.

Hobart 12m

Module: ULVBI-29, start pos 0.769 GB

  • 18:35UT Experiment started OK (Liz)
  • 23:04UT Experiment halted for Brett to do something with the telescope (spacex?). Last good scan 110-2257 (Liz)

Katherine 12m

Module: USN-0177, start pos 0.737 GB

  • 18:30UT Experiment started OK (Liz)
  • 08:15Ut rfpcn errors have been going throughout the day according to the logs. Restarted Rxmon, seems to have fixed it. (Arwin)

Yarragadee 12m

Module: HAY-0010, start pos 0.737 GB

  • 18:30UT Experiment started OK (Liz)
  • Looks like the last hour didnt record, the log abruptly ends an hour earlier without any warnings. Unsure of what went wrong and there were no alarms… Turns out this was due to the pcfyg machine running out of space, there were no alarms because the watchdog timeout was set to 1500 mins. (Arwin)

Hobart 26m

Module: HOB+1007/16000, start pos 7401.6 GB

  • 1730 UT - Experiment started on-time. Formatter/maser delay offset larger than normal (~2.8 us), it seems stable (+-0.05 us) with clkoff values stable. As the proc file does not call maserdelay I was unsure if this is normal. Called Warren and he is out at the telescope having a look if things are working correctly. At this stage it is being left as is. (Tiege)
  • 2122 UT - Schedule halted to put correct receiver on axis. Prior to this, the 22 GHz receiver was installed and no valid data would have been recorded. (JMc)
  • 2136 UT - First useful data - previous scan not reached in time after Rx change, (JMc)
  • 0606 UT - Pressure and temperatures too high - alarms going off. (25 microns Hg, 20K stage at 42K, and 70K stage at 85K) called Mt. Pleasant and Jim is restarting the vacuum pump. (Bryn)
  • 0643 UT - Temperatures still high in 20K and 70K stages (41K and 78.8K), but are slowly falling. (Bryn)
  • 0747 UT - 70K stage back at 65K. 20K stage at 35K (Bryn)

  • iread power levels are crappy, and attenuations reading at 0 for all 4 chans. Unable to fix even after many resets of everything, ignoring this until I can get in contact with someone to help (JS)
  • Continual rfpcn time-out error. Restarting monica several times has had no effect on this (JS)

  • Power restored to LNA/RFPic at 23:10. UPS in the pedestal is prone to errors and will be replaced tomorrow. No useful data before now. (JMc)
  • DBBC reconfigured to deal with odd autocorrelations - no effect. Schedule resumed at 23:36 after running fmset (JMc).
  • 23:38 UT - Maser vnc not working. Brett will check. (Lucia)
  • 0606UT - Maser vnc is working again (Lucia).
  • 0606UT - data lagging about 40 GB due to above procedures (Lucia)

Disk VSN: GSFC+022

Data volume at beginning: 0 GB

Data volume at the end: 28.83 GB

Setup issues

  • 06:00 UT Yg field system wasn't starting properly, rebooted the pcfyg computer which seems to have resolved the problem.
  • 06:15 UT Error messages saying dbbc not running, reconfigured the dbbc followed by a fmset.

Observing run

  • 07:00 UT - 07:15 UT : X= cross, S=direct (20v): No signal was observed and I noticed that the az/el weren't changing at all (I expected them to change as we are tracking a fast moving nearby object). I stopped the tracking reloaded the pointings and finally a signal was observed at 07:15 UT.

  • 07:15 UT - 07:30 UT: X= cross, S=direct (20v): The antenna seems to be tracking the spacecraft well now.

  • 07:30:35 UT - 08:00 UT : X=cross, S=cross (variable volt. 14v -checked with Yg staff): As evident in the figure below the signal strength was slightly less compared to the s=direct mode.
