Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

====== Experiment Name ======

**Hobart 12m**

Disk VSN: abc-123 | Data volume at beginning: 2.34 GB

   * 1300UT a comment from me (user)

**Katherine 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   *

**Yarragadee 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

Ho

VSN: HOB+0096 ( +9464 GB)

  • 1700 UT: First scan missed due to slow change over from pulsar observations. (DH)
  • 1700 UT: Cryo pressures high, 20K stage at 90K. Driving to Mt P to vacuum. (DH)
  • 1800 UT: Vacuumed cryos. Temps slowly decreasing (DH).
  • 1517UT SX para pressure out of range. Reading is 4.471. 20K stage at 80.66 hopefully it doesn't get too high in the next 2 hours. (JS)
  • 1600UT Pressure up to 4.9 and 20k temp at 79K advised to leave for the 1hour left in experiment (JS)

Ke

VSN: HAY-0029 (+0 GB)

NB: still using mk5-2ke, use clkoff-2 to check delays

  • Autocorrelation has large spikes in bands 01 and 14 (Dave)

Yg

VSN: TR-00009 (+0 GB)

* The humidity monitor is not working at the moment (IJ)

Module: HOB+0096, start pos 7607 GB

  • 0700 Experiment started OK (JS)

Module: GSFC+009, start pos 935 GB

Maserdelay still giving bad readings due to the different recorder in use - Just monitor clkoff values

  • 0700 Experiment started OK (JS)

Hobart 26m

Module: HOB+0096, start pos 6991.943 GB

  • 18:30 UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 00:34UT - Drive PC failed, had to halt the schedule and restart the Drive PC. Scans 282-0031 and 282-0037b are there, but may not be ok. (Imogen)
  • 06:34 UT - SX receiver parameter pressure is 4.9. Warren is going to drive out and fix it. (Ellen)
  • 07:20 UT - The pressure is down to 1.8 and the temps are falling slowly back down. (Ellen)

Katherine

Module: HOB+0042, start pos 242.307 GB

  • 18:30 UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 00:09 UT - Mark 5 lost connection to Field System, had to halt schedule. SSReset did not reset it, did a hard reboot of Mark 5. As it turns out, the connection to the Mark 5 has been lost. Antenna stowed until someone can attend the telescope to fix (Imogen)
  • 02:20UT - Problem with mk5ke, have to switch to mk5-2ke to record to that until the other mark 5 is fixed. (Imogen)
  • 03:56UT - changed mk5 over to mk5-2ke, began recording again. Autocorrelations on channels 1 and 14 are really not good, but all other channels are fine for now. (Imogen)
  • 06:00 UT - Autocorrelation has large spikes in bands 01 and 14. (Ellen)
  • 06:30 UT - Since mk5-2ke is being used the “clkoff” values are wrong and will set off alarms every scan. I changed this in the log monitor to now only beep every scan (Configure > Delay Monitoring > Audible Warning). The delay differences must be checked manually using the command “clkoff-2” and comparing that with “maserdelay”. (Ellen)
  • 06:30 UT - Autocorrelation still bad in those 2 bands. (Ellen)
  • 1200 UT – Edited midob procedure to call clkoff-2 rather than clkoff. (Dave)

Yarragadee

Module: USN-0204, start pos 0 GB

  • 18:30 UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 21:50 UT - The disc pos is already falling behind, while Ke and Ho are fine. I have noticed that Yg starts recording up to 5 seconds later than it should on some scans. (Ellen)
  • 09:30 UT - Disc pos ~30 GB behind schedule. (Ellen)

  • 1747 UT Formatter light is on, but form command returns m,16,1:1,off,,3,pass,41,0x04,okay (JS)
  • 1801 UT Experiment started OK (JS)

Katherine

Module: HAY-0041, start pos 315.961 GB will need a new module put in Module: HOB+0042, start pos 0.000 GB

  • 17:30 UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 10:45 UT - Recording automatically swapped to bank A module. Last scan on bank B (HAY-0041) is 280-1043, first on bank A (HOB+0042) is 280-1050a (Ross).

Hobart 26m

Module: HOB+0096, start pos 3170GB

  • 1702UT - Late start (2min) (JS)
  • 1709UT - ch09, and ch03 very low voltage. Others are fine in channel range, so leaving if values for now (JS)
  • 2114UT - Receiver stuck in Lband Scans failed 278-1700 through 278-2217 (JS)
  • 2157UT - OTTER interface reset (using 'r' command) and SX reciever put on axis (JS) [Have updated the setup notes to include this as a fix for stuck reciever]
  • 2205UT - ch09, and ch03 still bad readings (JS)
  • 2210UT - Field system restarted (wasn't behaving with schedule resume) (JS)
  • 2220UT - Scan 278-2217 successful (JS)
  • 2335UT - Hobart26 drives have been switched off since ~2300UT, despite various claims (e-RemoteCtrl, antenna monitor etc.) that the antenna is slewing to source (SS)
  • Antenna stowed due to high wind at ~00:20UT
  • 08:00 UT Mark VI formatter time inconsistent with DAC time (lagging by 1 second), has been corrected for future scans/experiments (Ross)
  • 08:00 UT Mark VI IF channels 03 and 09 showing error lights, problem has been resolved for future scans/experiments (Ross)
  • 13:38 UT - Schedule resumed after wind died down. First scan 279-1346 at disc pos 418.4 GB. (Ellen)
  • 14:07 UT - Ridiculously high tsys measurements continuously. Imogen said not to bother fixing. (Ellen)

Katherine

Module: UAO-0031, start pos 0GB

  • 1700UT - Experiment started okay (JS)
  • 13:54 UT - Module ran out of space after recording 1983.649 GB, swapped over to HAY-0041, first scan 279-1354b. (Ellen)

Yarragadee

Module: HOB+1007, start pos 11401 GB

  • 1700UT - Experiment started okay (JS)
  • 13:26 UT - Disc pos is over 100 GB behind the schedule. I can't find any explanation for this. (Ellen)
