Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

  • 23:01 UT - Antenna lost connection and got stuck during scan, eventually a combination of antenna=open and operate got it working again. Scans affected: 174-2301a to 174-2303b. During next scan (174-2305b) telescope was waiting at limit. (Ellen)
  • 03:33 UT - Antenna lost connection again, drives had to be restarted again. No scan missed, but there were tracking errors and the antenna got stuck. Scan affected: 175-0332 to 175-0340. (Ellen)

  • 0910 UT: Clock drifting. DBBC reconfigured. After resuming schedule, field system locked up. Killed 'fs', but could not restart it — it seemed to be caused by some Xauth problem. Restarted pcfske. Scans 174-0909a – 174-0926b (inc) missed. Clock offset stable at ~ -0.280 us. (Dave)
  • 1012 UT: minor clock jump. Clock offset now ~ -0.290 us (Dave)
  • 1024 UT: wind-stow activated for what appears to be an error. Rebooted windke. Antenna comms then refused to operate. Rebooted antenna system. Restarted fs to get it out of auto-stow loop. Scans 174-1024a and 174-1029a missed. (Dave)
  • 1033 UT: Another minor clock jump. (Dave)
  • 1101 UT: Another clock jump. Clock seems to be drifting again. Reconfiguring DBBC. Missed 174-1100 and part of 174-1104b (Dave)
  • 1218 UT: minor clock jump. Stable at ~ -0.285 us diff. (Dave)

  • Mk5 had a fit as soon as schedule started, likely due to module swap from bank B. The pointers jumped and doubled the amount of data on module HOB+0123, making it too full to record another A15 experiment. Called Jamie. He said to swap out the dodgey module and put the next one in (being a 2TB, the last 32 TB is in bank B) and record to the 32 TB module. A test recording on both showed that the mk5 is now behaving itself. (Ellen)
  • 19:45 UT - schedule resumed. First scan recorded 170-1953b, all previous scans missed, corresponding to 143 GB deficient. (Ellen)
