Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

AUA002

Monitoring Observations on Parkes 64-m: Parkes Monitoring and Setup Instructions

AUA003 is not automatically started at the end of this schedule!

Additionally, AUA003 prc files have ifb=4,agc,1, rather than ifb=4,agc,4, like AUA002. Unsure if this is intentional or not (AUA is AUST-type, right?)

  • 17:00 UT - Experiment started OK (vk)
  • 17:42 UT - Restarting DBBC. Alarms sounding because clock drift had gone past 0.5 microsec and was still plunging (vk)
  • 17:56 UT - Schedule restarted. Missed scans 124-1741 to 124-1753a, corresponding to a deficit of ~15 GB (vk)
  • 21:43 UT - Antenna stuck! However it seems to have resolved itself by 21:45. Scan 124-2138b might have been affected (vk)

  • 09:26 UT - S RCP/X RCP are 15.0/7.0 as opposed to 10.0/7.0 as they ought to be. However, iread shows that power levels are being obtained with reasonable attenuation, so am not going to adjust this. (vk)
  • 17:00 UT - Experiment started OK (vk)
  • 08:30 UT - Tsys bands 09-14 (except band 11) all consistently far too high. (Ellen)

  • The schedule start email claimed everything was fine - but mk5ke was not recording properly. It's unclear why this happened. Several “mk5cn: connection closed” messages appeared, and nothing was being recorded. The EndDIM command had no effect on the dim process. fmset took a few seconds to display values, but eventually did. I decided to reboot the mk5 via the power switch. Waiting for a few minutes and looking on the webcam showed what looked like a frozen state. Tried off, then on, but the mk5 never had lights on the front powered after this. Boot did nothing either. Contacted Jamie, now recording to mk5-2ke (USN-0169, 2TB free). Missed approximately the first hour - first real scan is 1424-418 at 120-1959a. There appears to be bad auto-correlations in DBBC channels 1 and 14, but not restarting DBBC for fear of losing more time. (Chris)
  • In gap between scans 120-2335 and 120-2346, cycled power to DBBC and reprogrammed it. No scans missed but expect a clock jump. (Jim)
  • DBBC cont cal wasn't working. Another DBBC reset required. scans 121-0004, 121-0008, 121-0010 missed. Clock jump. (Jim)
  • Another DBBC restart required, due to large difference between formatter and maser delays. (Jakob)
  • 08:42 UT: 476 GB recorded (Ross).
  • 08:44:59 UT: ALARM: error m5 -104 mk5cn: time-out, connection closed (Ross).
