Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

====== Experiment Name ======

**Hobart 12m**

Disk VSN: abc-123 | Data volume at beginning: 2.34 GB

   * 1300UT a comment from me (user)

**Katherine 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   *

**Yarragadee 12m**

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

Hobart

Disk VSN: HOB+0055

Data Volume at Beginning: 6352.932 GB

  • Not enough volume remaining on HOB+0055 for this experiment - there will need to be an additional module put into the mk5 before experiment end
  • 1830 UT Experiment started OK (Bryn)
  • New module is loaded in the other bank, should spill over once full.
  • 15:00 UT ALARM about module being full. Changed over module with mk5=bank_set=inc. No further alarms (Lucas).
  • Unfortunately although there is a module in Hb, I only noticed at 18:00 UT that it was not recording to that module as it does not know it is there. It seems either the module has not been inserted correctly or that it is broken. No Hobart data recorded after 15:00 UT.

Disk VSN: WSRT-049

Data Volume at Beginning: 0GB

  • 1830 UT Experiment started OK (Bryn)
  • 0435 UT Telescope had a few issues with the drives here. I got it going once with the antenna=operate and antenna=open. However I dont think it went to source until scan 069-0509. It wasnt ringing an alarm the second time but the log said “antenna stuck”. Pretty much all data starting 04:35 to 05:00 is invalid. First scan should be 069-0509. (Arwin)
  • ALARM: error s5 -104 rfpcn: time-out, connection closed at 04:00 UT. Performed correction listed here and there were no further alarms (Lucas).

Yarragadee

Disk VSN: HOB+0044

Data Volume at Beginning: 0GB

  • 1830 UT Experiment started OK (Bryn)
  • 0230 UT yg network was all clogged up. The webacam was hogging all the bandwidth, needed a reset. This was causing problem with the ntpq server getting its time properly which caused a higher than normal offset in the mk5=dot?. The schedule was halted between 2017.069.02:16:17 to 2017.069.03:03:49. Scans missed were 069-0216b to 069-0308b (not inclusive of the last one). If you run comments.py, it should pick this up automatically. (Arwin)

Hobart 12m:

Disk VSN: HART+101/8000 *do not erase existing data on disk*. Okay (Lucas).

Data volume at beginning: 4861 GB will have to change module then as there is 4051 GB needed.

  • Experiment started okay (Lucas).
  • Hobart autocorrelations don't look right, maybe rfi? (Lucas)

Katherine 12m:

Disk VSN: HOB+0021

Data volume at beginning: 2.244 GB

  • Experiment missed scans 065-1700 and 065-1704 as dbbc was reconfigured. After that it was fine. Nothing serious just timing was off and wouldn't sync (Lucas).

Yarragadee 12m:

Disk VSN: USN-0067

Data volume at beginning: 59.080 GB

  • Experiment started fine (Lucas).
  • Lost ability to read tsys again before 0600 UT - IF levels and autocorrelations are fine though (Bryn)
  • 14:30UT Saw a transient step function on the autocorrelation spectra. It disappeared the next scan. This coupled with the non-existat sys temps has forced me to reconfigure the DBBC. Scans missed will be 066-1454, 066-1456, 066-1502, and 066-1504a.(Arwin)
  • I checked with the yg staff, Jim is aware of the tsys problem and exp is okay to go ahead without meaningful system temps. (Arwin)

  • Having lots of issues with IFs in setup. Keep getting WARNING: error s1 -104 ifpcn: time-out, connection closed. Can't use ifnom to set IF attenuations (all zero) - and can't get it to work with resetting monica.
  • I've tried restarting the pcfs and Monica to fix the ifpcn timeout issues and get systemp12 working. Autocorrelation and power levels in iread both look fine. I can't reach on-call, so I'm starting the experiment anyway. (Bryn)
  • 18:30UT Experiment started OK. (Bryn)
  • 21:00UT Disk pos lagging by 20GB - probably due to the issues with monica. (Bryn)
  • 00:30 UT: IF unit has a fault, probably with the PIC. No noise diode control at the moment, so no Tsys. Power levels into DBBC are OK though. (Jim)
