Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

  • During setup: Telescope drives had to be manually reset, mk5ho was unresponsive and had to be revived by Jamie M.
  • 18:00 UT Experiment started on time (Arwin)
  • 18:00 UT Gave the following error twice “ERROR m5 -104 mk5cn: time-out, connection closed”. Everything seems to be fine, will keep an eye (Arwin)
  • 18:31 UT Getting the follwoing two errors “error di -400 if module position exceeds number of conditioning modules” and “error sp -13 this command not supported for your equipment, check equip.ctl.” quite a bit. Wiki is no help on this. Turns out they were beingn, a result of using the DBBC as the backend as opposed to mkV. (Arwin)
  • 19:24 UT Noticed that the sum file has not been created in sched.tmp (forgot to mention this during handover -Arwin). Tried manually drudging the skd file in the tmp folder but to no avail. (Arwin)
  • 19:26 UT Disk_pos at 330.901, unable to check as I cannot find the sum file.(Arwin)
  • 22:42 UT Total data recorded = 1047.053 GB. (Arwin)
  • 22:43 UT The sys temps were in their thousands when the telescope was on a really low elevaltion source. (Arwin)
  • 11:34 UT 26m removed from wind stow. Recording as normal. (Bryn)
  • 15:53 UT System temps were also in thousands here. (Liz)

  • 18:07 UT Experiment started 7 mins late due to the above issues. First valid data was was for scan 2019-1819, source 2101-490 at 18:19:38 UT. Missed about 31 Gb (Arwin)

  • 17:30 UT: Experiment started OK (Ross)
  • 22:57 UT: Alarm, lost antenna control. ERROR st -998 reading SystemClock1. In the System momnitor, Drive Status and Controller clock red. Fixed with antenna=operate/open. (Lucia)
  • 23:04 UT: Alarm, error s5 -104 rfpcn: time-out, connection closed. Presumably a pwer glitch that stopped the counters. FS restarted, First good scan 208-2318 (Lucia).
  • 06:55 UT: Channel 13 in s-band shows dodgy behaviour. This may be due to high RFI. Reconfigure DBBC before next experiment. (Lucia)

Antenna went to stow at end of RD1606, I started the next schedule quickly and halted to prevent this.

  • 1800UT: Experiment Started Okay.(Lucas)
  • 2130UT: fs and eremote crashed. ERC server had to be restarted (Lucas).
  • Schedule re-started at 2257UT, first scan 0332-403 (Lucas).

0138 - Power loss to front end - iread power levels 0, no IF bandpasses on spectrum analyser, no rfpic response. Martin has been contacted to investigate the power supply in the pedestal. Bad UPS suspected, or perhaps a circuit breaker. (JMc)

  • 1730 UT: Experiment looked to have started okay but the teslecope drives were stuck. (Arwin)
  • 1922 UT: With Brett and Jamie's help got the drives going again from Mt pleasant. First uselful scan is 201-1929 starting at 1929 UT.(Arwin)
  • 1954 UT: lots of “ ch -308 ve total power integrator overflow” errors. I presume these are due to the 100 k system temp on channels 14 and 15. (Arwin)
  • 202.1327UT: changed to module HOB+0114. Missed scan 202-1324, source 2145+0.82. First source on new module 1736+324 (Lucas).
