Sending a start of observation email to IVS.

There are two ways of doing this. Both use the Gmail account for Hobart observers (hbobserver@gmail.com, usual password). The first uses the Evolution email client on Ops4 and is probably the easiest method. The second uses gmail in a web browser.

Sending a start message with Evolution

On ops4, start Evolution (if necessary) by double-clicking on the Desktop icon, or clicking on the toolbar icon, or select “Applications → Internet → Evolution Mail”. Once it starts, choose the Templates folder from the left, under “On This Computer” (“1” in the figure below), then double click on the appropriate message template (“2” in the figure), there's one for each telescope.

Select Templates, then double-click on the one you need

In the message that appears, fill in the blanks, including the experiment name, first source name and time, etc and lastly your name. The Formatter to GPS difference can be obtained by typing

clkoff

in econtrol or the oprin window. A positive value means the formatter is leading.

When ready, press Send.

Sending a start message with Gmail

Alternatively, log in to gmail with the hbobserver@gmail.com account and compose a message to ivs-ops@ivscc.gsfc.nasa.gov with CC to Brett, Jim and Jamie with the following format:

Subject: Hobart 12m (Hb) has started <experiment_name>
Hobart 12m (Hb) has started experiment <experiment name>

The first scheduled source was ______ at ____/___ UT/DOY.
The Formatter (H-maser) leads/lags GPS _______ microseconds at ____/___ UT/DOY.

The weather is ______(temp,pres,humid,sky conditions)

Comments/Problems:

The Formatter to GPS difference can be obtained by typing
