Controller Software Update Complete on Hobart 12m

1520 UT 20 Sept 2010. The software update is complete.

The update affects the At Position and At Velocity status bits that are used in Position and Velocity modes. These are now held at 0 when working in Track mode.

DBBC + Linux on 8GB CF

I went out to the observatory again on Friday and had another go at making the DBBC boot Linux off our 8GB CF card.

I failed.

Investigation of the hopeful error message which was observed previously revealed that instead of being useful it is a generic “confused hardware” message. There seems to be no good reason in the images' configuration for these problems. Extensive tweaking of bios settings (ACPI off, DMA off, etc) did not improve the situation.

My feeling is that before I spend more hours struggling with this, that we should buy a cheap 4GB CF and see if we have more success with this.

SNTP server at Yarragadee

The CNS II clock is now installed at Yarragadee. It acts as an SNTP server with IP address 131.217.61.70 (cnssyg). The telescope controller has been given this address and seems happy with it.

It looks like someone (Brett?) has also changed this to be the SNTP server for the windows PC too.
