Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

  • UT 1701 experiment started OK. Can't find r1703ho.sum, prc files etc seem to have drudged okay, but oper@hobart /tmp/sched.tmp looks to be for previous experiment still. (JS)
  • UT1730 The default attenuations are sufficient to keep the voltages in the appropriate range - leaving them (JS)
  • UT0650 vacuum pump switched on because receiver was slowly warming up. (Lucia)

  • “2015.240.07:56:48 ALARM: Delay through DBBC has changed. Monitor for stability and reset DBBC if it drifts.” Looked at delay differences, but they didn't seem to have jumped (before alarm -0.280us and after -0.285, -0.282 etc). Since couldn't see anything else wrong, Jim said we could ignore it for the moment. (Anita)
  • 08:26:51 got that alarm again. This time seems like there is a small drift in the delay difference - keeping an eye on it (Anita)
  • 14:19 UT - Same alarm again. No problems as far as I could tell. (Ellen)

  • 1905 UT: Windstow activated. Appears to be a misread on windy or the anemom (wind speed 9999 km/h). Reset the windyg box to bring the average windspeed back down. Misreads continued. Did cold reset on windyg. Still the occasional misread. Could be on the anemometer end (An insect on the ultrasound transducers?).
  • Scans missed: 239-1906b – 239-1918, 239-1929, 239-1934b

  • 00:45 UT: alarm through DBBC has changed in last digit. Might cause one of these small cklock jumps. (Lucia)
  • 02:07 UT: dbbc kept drifting. Schedule halted, dbbc reset, fs restarted. First good scan 239-0210. Missed 90 GB. (Lucia)
  • 09:57 UT: ALARM: Delay through DBBC has changed. Monitor for stability and reset DBBC if it drifts. Delay is not stable, dbbc keeps drifting, schedule halted and dbbc reset. Missed scans 239-0957 and 239-1007 (Ross).

  • SETUP: ntpq has highly unstable offset in fifth row ranging between -13 and -22 ms. First two are stable, and third and fourth are consistently less than 10 ms (Ross).
  • SETUP: Cannot record to HART+101 module in Bank A. Module HOB+0083 in bank B can successfully be recorded to (Ross).

  • 236/0730 UT: Could not record to module IAA-0028 in Bank A of mk5yg — Dimino locks up and requires killing. Could record to HART+101 in Bank B OK. Swap modules: IAA-0028 to Bank B, HART+101 to Bank A. Can't record to HART+101 in Bank A without dim locking up either. Bank A is misbehaving. If we need to swap modules, it may need to go into Bank B. Resetting mk5yg did not fix the problem. (Dave)

02:16 UT - Windstows. Halted schedule at 02:19UT for safety reasons (Imogen)

Consistent windstows all day. No good data from 02:16UT until 05:35UT (Imogen)

  • Windstowed from 07:15 UT till 9:37. Scans affected: 233-0717b to 233-0936 inclusive. (Ellen)
  • 08:05 UT - Cryo vacuum pressure 2.9 and 70K stage at 62 - keeping an eye on them. Disc pos ~30 GB AHEAD. (Ellen)
  • 09:23 UT - “ALARM: error m5 -104 mk5cn: time-out, connection closed”. I checked and the mk5a was running and there were no problems next scan. So I'm not sure what this was about. (Ellen)
