Handover notes

Please use this page to write up any notes on anything that needs to be passed on to the next observer or should go into the end of experiment message.

Notes should be placed below the horizontal line as a new blog entry.

Continuing problems should be copied to the Current Issues page.

**Template for Handover notes:**

Be sure to add any specific notes about the experiment if required, for example “Special back end configuration for x reason”. Put as much detail as you can - the more the better.

It is ESSENTIAL to put your name after EVERY entry. Copy and paste the template into the new handover notes

====== Experiment Name ======

**Hobart 12m**

Disk VSN: abc-123 | Data volume at beginning: 2.34 GB

   * 1300UT a comment from me (user)

**Katherine 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   *

**Yarragadee 12m**

Disk VSN: | Data volume at beginning: GB

   * 1300UT Experiment started okay (JMc).

Format for entering a comment It is important to stick to this formula - there is a good reason we need this information, so please include it!

Time stamp in UT * Comment * (Your Name)

For Example:

20:00UT: Wind stows, Missed scans 012-3456 to 012-3457 (Jim)

20:50UT: Mark5 lost connection, had to restart Mark5 and reconfigure DBBC, called Jamie on call to fix, missed scans 012-3456 to 012-4567 (Jim)

Again - as much detail as you can. It is important to remember that these notes will be sent to the correlator, so please make sure they make sense to others.

Modules: HART-015, start pos: 0 GB and HAY-0021/960/1024, start pos 0 GB.

  • 17:30UT - Experiment started ok. (Nick)
  • 0330-0445 - Problems with mk5ke, networking. HART-015 developed an error, all recordings failed with “XLRappend append error”. Problem persisted through reboot and power cycles, also present when using jive5ab. recover did not correct the problem. (JMc)
  • Experiment resumed at 0445 using mk5-2ke. /usr2/control/mk5ad.ctl edited to use this recorder, clkoff edited in t2111ke to use the correct counter. (JMc)
  • Experiment recorded across two modules in the two mk5 units (HART-015 and HAY-0021)
  • 05:06 UT - First good scan is 174-0455, scans missed/unusable 174-0331 through 174-0331 inclusive (Tiege)
  • 05:10 UT - Looking at the autocorellation spectra on pcfske shows that the x band channel 2 and s band channel 5 are messed up. Jamie seems to recall this being a problem inherent to the mk5-2ke (potential cabling issue). (Tiege)

Module: HOB+0129, start pos: 3101.851 GB

  • 17:30UT - Experiment started ok. (Ross)
  • 00:30UT - Massive delay difference, clkoff was very high (order of e-01), mk5 was about 0.5s out of sync, but reported a sync error of 0. Counter and fmset didn't fix it so restarted the DBBC. That fixed the delay but then the field system crashed and had to be restarted. Missed scans 167-0031 to 167-0044 inclusive, corresponding to about 53 GB of data. (Ellen)

  • 22:50UT - Disc pos ~20 GB behind. (Ellen)
  • 01:00UT - Disc pos ~30 GB behind. (Ellen)
  • 03:00UT - Continuing to lose ~10 GB every 2 hours [last noticed trend 06:49UT]. (Ellen)

Module: TR-00001, start pos: 0 GB

  • 18:30UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 06:50UT - Started getting some errors about the delay through DBBC changing (going between 61947 and 61951). Log monitor says to reset the DBBC if it drifts, and Brett has suggested calling him if the problem persists and the on-call person is unable to help. (Nick)
  • 07:10UT - Still monitoring delay, seems to have stabilised at around 0.365 us, seems to be alternating between 0.360 us and 0.365 us. (Tiege)

Yarragadee

Module: NTO-0007, start pos 0 GB

  • 18:30UT - Experiment started ok. (Ellen)
  • 18:38UT - System monitor not updating. Restarted and is giving the following returns in the terminal: “ Argument xxxxxxx isn't numeric in numeric lt (<) at /usr2/st/bin/monitor_system.pl line 925, <GEN0> line XXX ”. Every few lines the “(<)” is replaced by “(+)”. No idea what this mean. Restarted Monica 3 times got it work, but it is still giving these strange messages in command window. (Ellen)
